MotoE arrives to Austria with an exciting driver rankings

In the midst of the European summer, the 2021 FIM Enel MotoE World Cup season returns to action. The Red Bull Ring in Austria will host the next-to-last battle of the exciting electric motorcycle series, which has several strong contenders for the crown.

The track is already familiar to those who competed in the 2019 season, while those who joined from 2020 will face a new challenge. This is the case of Alessandro Zaccone, who leads the championship so far. The Italian has surprised all and sundry, beating traditional favorites, while showing consistency on every stage.

Meanwhile, the current champion, Jordi Torres, refuses to lose the illusion of retaining the title, and is placed second, seven points behind Zaccone. After a weak opening, the Spaniard has been tightening his grip and threatens the lead.

Dominique Aegerter is among the leaders, looking to Austria with hopes of moving up in the standings. The Swiss did not have it all in Assen (Netherlands), where a crash dropped him to fourth place, but just 17 points off the top. In addition, the Dynavolt rider comes from a week with the press, since in September his calendar clashes with the Supersport, a tournament where he races at the same time as the MotoE.

Eric Granado is tied with Aegerter in points. The Brazilian rider swept the pre-season tests and looked set to dominate the campaign from start to finish, but some mistakes in races and the unexpected appearance of Zaccone have put him behind. Despite the obstacles, if there is someone who can show his quality in the decisive hours, it is Granado.

Other Riders who might surprise.

Once the first group of riders who are at the top of the grid has been analyzed, we must also consider some drivers who have the ability to appear unexpectedly in the top.

Mattia Casadei is one of them, who after his great performance in the Dutch circuit, is only 10 points behind Dominique Aegerter and Eric Granado in third place.

E-Racing Gresini’s Matteo Ferrari also raised his hopes at the previous round. After a difficult start this year, the Italian achieved his best result in 2021 at Assen with a fourth-place position, and was the best Red Bull Ring finisher in 2019. He has been consistent by finishing in the top ten at every race this season, something only Zaccone, Torres and Yonny Hernandez have achieved.

Among others who can make a big splash, but might have a much tougher time are Lukas Tulovic, Hikari Okubo, and Fermin Aldeguer. This trio are in contention with good points still up for grabs. Although it may seem a titanic task, they all have a mathematical chance to conquer glory.
