Extreme E paid a visit to its Legacy Programme in the local community, with Catie Munnings from Andretti Altawkilat Extreme E and Kevin Hansen from E.ON Veloce Racing participating to closely observe the environmental initiatives that the championship is undertaking in Scotland.
The former open-cast coal mine of Glenmuckloch, located in Dumfries and Galloway, will once again host the Hydro X Prix. This restored mine is about to enter the next phase of its transformation into a pumped storage hydroelectric plant and wind farm.
As part of the series’ Legacy Programme in Scotland, Extreme E continues to collaborate with the Nith District Salmon Fishery Board on a multi-phase environmental initiative focused on mitigating the effects of climate change on Atlantic salmon.

Extreme E: What Was Observed This Year
In this year’s journey, Extreme E moved to Solway Firth, where the river Nith flows into the Atlantic Ocean. This location highlighted the importance of the river Nith in global ecosystems, as it is where young salmon smolts enter the ocean to travel towards the Norwegian Sea, growing from 30 g to 4,000 g in one year.
Supported by a class of students from Kelloholm Primary School, the championship visited the Nith District headquarters and the plant nursery, funded thanks to the Extreme E Legacy Programme.
There, they observed the growth of seedlings and also planted some of their own, which, once ready, will be transported and planted on the riverbank, benefiting the area for years to come.
Moreover, Vodafone Business, the official technology communications partner of Extreme E, has provided the Trust with hydrosensors and temperature probes to monitor water quality and temperature. This technology supports the Trust’s ongoing conservation efforts, while Vodafone Business uses this pioneering championship as a testing ground for innovation.
“It was fantastic for Extreme E to return to Scotland ahead of the Hydro X Prix and resume the environmental initiatives we implemented just over a year ago. Making a positive environmental impact in the areas where we compete is vital, so returning for our latest Legacy Voyage on the river Nith was of great importance,” said Ali Russell, CEO of Extreme E.
