Enovation Consulting, in collaboration with Paolo Taticchi, Professor of Strategy and Sustainability at University College London’s School of
Management, has published the fifth edition of the Sustainable Circuits Index™ (SCI™), part of the Sustainable Motorsport Index™ (SMI™).
The SCI™ is a first-of-its-kind industry benchmark ranking the sustainability initiatives of 117 permanent and temporary motorsport circuits around the globe.
Circuits are assessed against 21 industry-specific criteria spread across seven sustainability categories using a robust, proprietary methodology. The data collection and analysis for the SCI™ were conducted by Enovation Consulting during the period between 1st January and 31st December 2024, under the guidance of Professor Paolo Taticchi to ensure analytical rigor.

The 2025 SCI™ sees the Circuit de Barcelona – Catalunya reclaim pole position as the world’s most sustainable motorsport circuit after two years. Mugello Circuit came in second position, narrowly behind the leader, with Silverstone Circuit and the Circuit de la Sarthe (Le Mans) sharing the third step on the podium. Suzuka Circuit achieved the titles of “Most improved” and “Biggest Mover,” gaining the most points and leaping an incredible 37 places in this year’s edition! Meanwhile, Singapore’s Marina Bay Street Circuit maintained its dominance as the most sustainable temporary circuit in the world and gained the most points across the category as it elevated its sustainability credentials.

Despite familiar names at the top of the rankings, the gap seen previously among the circuits ranked in SCI™ has reduced considerably, and the index is now more competitive than ever. In this fifth iteration, the SCI™ indicates that more circuits outside of the podium finishers are embarking on meaningful sustainability journeys, highlighting the growing importance of sustainability action, practices and strategy across the racing world. This encouraging outcome indicates exciting progress as motorsport works to build a more resilient, innovative and future-proof industry.

Dr. Cristiana Pace – Founder and CEO of Enovation Consulting

“When I started my career in motorsport, sustainability was hardly a footnote, let alone a focus. While performance remains the focal point of motorsport, sustainability has now become a fundamental pillar. Five years ago, we created the Sustainable Circuits Index™ to highlight what circuits are doing in the environmental, social and governance (ESG) space, using a robust methodology taken form the corporates and financial world. Today, this benchmark is helping to democratise sustainability across the industry, and it has been a refreshing journey seeing real improvement year after year.
Without the foundational infrastructure of circuits, the very existence of the motorsport would not be possible. Circuits can have a huge impact on the environment and society, and the opportunities they are presented with can lead to lasting, real changes within local communities and economic development, aside educating fans and promoters. We have seen some incredibly innovative solutions which have been outlined in the 2025 SCI™.”

Paolo Taticchi – Professor of Strategy and Sustainability at University College London’s School of Management

“As motorsport federations continue to demand sustainability action, it is imperative that we develop and utilise the tools available to measure the performance of industry stakeholders. In the 2025 SCI™, circuits will find creative examples of best practice that they can compare against and emulate, alongside the competitive nature of motorsport to ascend the leaderboard. Engagement with sustainability is expected to accelerate in the coming years, and we are excited to see how this translates into performance which the SCI™ will ascertain
