Veteran driver Jenson Button, owner of the Extreme E team, JBXE, has decided to hand over the wheel to young Kevin Hansen for the May 29-30 race in Lac Rose, Senegal.
As the Swedish couple (Kevin Hansen and Mikaela Åhlin-Kottulinsky) see action in the second race of the “Electric Odyssey”, Jenson will be in command as team manager this time around.
It should be noted that pilots born in Sweden are no strangers to the Extreme E, since the birth of the off-road electric SUV series in 2019, both were part of the driver program, so they have been fundamental factors in the development of the series.
Button was pleased to announce the new opportunity for Kevin, at the same time that he praised the trajectory and achievements obtained from him at such a young age. “Obviously I’m wearing two hats with JBXE as a driver, but I’m also wearing it as a team owner, and it’s the latter that gives me the opportunity to put Kevin in the Odyssey 21 for this race,” he said.

Kevin Hansen, for his part, made no secret of his excitement to learn that he will be participating as the starting driver in the Ocean X Prix: “I have been quite involved in the series and developing the car (Odyssey 21) from the beginning. I started in the test program and finally I was in Aragon last year. Having this opportunity with Jenson is very nice. ”
The JBXE squad will arrive in Senegal occupying the sixth position of the tournament, after collecting 17 units during the Desert X Prix that took place in Al Ula, Saudi Arabia on April 3-4.
Jenson will again drive in the third Extreme E X Prix, which will take place in Greenland from August 28-29.
