Jaguar Racing announced 2016 Formula V8 3.5 champion Tom Dillmann alongside Sacha Fenestraz as simulator and reserve driver for the Formula E team.
It is important to mention that having competed in 23 Formula E races between Venturi and then NIO, Dillmann is not eligible to participate in future rookie tests. His best result was fourth place at the 2019 New York E-Prix.
“When I was racing with Venturi and then NIO, we didn’t really have someone on our team dedicated to race support and a dedicated sim driver,” said Dillmann adding that his current team simulator has made great strides but without detracting from it to the rest of the electrical series.
The 32-year-old Frenchman worked in a similar role for two-time constructors’ champion DS Techeetah last season.
Dillmann added that he was still competing for driver’s position in Formula E, yet the 2018-19 season at NIO had “damaged” his championship momentum.
“After Venturi, I was let’s say on an uptrend and then I got a seat with NIO for the full season. Unfortunately, that was a really hard season with a very uncompetitive car, so it put a big handbrake to that uptrend.”

Dillmann considers that after a campaign with few results, it is difficult to occupy one of the competition’s cars but he does not underestimate his continued involvement and presence in the team updates, referring to his role at Jaguar.
The British team is in search of its first constructors’ title in recent Formula E history and has achieved great results in season seven. After 7 rounds Jaguar has 103 points, just two points behind the championship leader Mercedes.
Fundamental has been the accumulation of points from Mitch Evans (third) and Sam Bird (fifth) who have achieved five podiums.
