Nissan’s Oliver Rowland made interesting late overtakes to break Porsche’s dominance in the second round of the 2025 Hankook Mexico City E-Prix; The Yorkshire driver led the race ahead of Antonio Félix da Costa and Pascal Wehrlein.

Pascal Wehrlein had previously achieved two consecutive Julius Baer Pole Positions to secure first place on the grid, ahead of his teammate Da Costa, at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez. For his part, Rowland was left crestfallen after making a mistake.

Rowland positioned himself well as the race reached its climax, using his second ATTACK MODE at the end.

A Safety Car nearly ruined his six-minute, 50kW four-wheel drive boost, but on lap 31 the track was clear, and the Nissan driver had a minute left of that boost to try and take advantage of and overtake the leading trio: Da Costa, current Champion Wehrlein and Jake Dennis (Andretti).

Action Packed Spins

The day featured a series of impressive overtaking maneuvers. When the Porsche Taycan GT Safety Car re-entered the pits, it freed the group.

Rowland passed Dennis into Turn 1. Wehrlein charged into the chicane with final braking and overtook leader Da Costa as the group headed towards the Foro Sol stadium.

Three decisive moves against three World Champions (and the other three drivers who had led the race) in just over half a lap were enough for Rowland to take the victory.

This was the first victory in Mexico for Rowland, who now has two wins in the last three races, also breaking the streak of four consecutive seasons of victories for Porsche engines in Mexico.
