The year 2022 will be loaded with sports competitions and many surprises. In anticipation of mind-blowing tournaments like the Airspeeder or the E1 Series, a new event full of technology and excitement for motorsport and sustainability lovers has been launched.

This is the e-bike Grand Prix Series (EBK GP), a new electric bicycle category to be held in several cities around the world. The first information to emerge details that it includes ten events with ten franchised teams to form two separate squads, one for the men’s race and one for the women’s race. Dubai will host the first day, while manufacturer BMC Switzerland will develop the electrified vehicles to be used in the competition.

EBK GP will use electric bike technology and partner up with host cities to raise awareness of the climate change challenges. The series will seek to mobilize citizens and promote cleaner and greener cities.

A New Vision

Judith Rowan, Global Host City Director of EBK GP noted that the new competition reflects another facet of global sporting events. She explained that the technology-driven race format, coupled with a strong sustainability mandate, are essential attributes of the sporting events of the future.

“We are very excited to lead this and extremely proud to welcome Dubai, one of the World”s great innovators, as our inaugural host city. This is an exciting development for cycling and the sports industry as a whole,” she added.

Institutional Support

As part of the EBK GP organization, government administrators from each city will commit to customized three-year Sustainable Transformational Mobility (STM) programs. This is in line with the series’ intent to create a lasting green legacy worldwide.

HE Saeed Mohammed Hareb, Secretary-General of the Dubai Sports Council, expressed his delight at being the first host city announced for the inaugural E-Bike Grand Prix Series, which he described as “the fastest and most technologically advanced bike category in the world.”

He assured that the metropolis is one of the most pioneering cities globally and is the embodiment of possibility and innovation, so there are clear synergies between its vision and innovative sports competitions.

“The EBK GP will not only create a sensational sporting experience, but will also promote Dubai’s sustainability achievements, especially at a time when we are hosting the Expo that advocates sustainability and promotes a future where humanity can live in harmony with nature and technology,” added Hareb.
