While planning its kick-off, Extreme E announced that all trophies awarded at the end of each race would be made from recycled material, mostly plastic collected at sea by the ST. Helena, the vessel responsible for competition logistics.
Now, the off-road electric SUV competition has announced that sustainable brand Groundtruth, a company creating travel items from 100% recycled materials, will support the event with a backpack collection to keep it eco-friendly.
Each Groundtruth-made backpack is composed by 120 plastic bottles collected from oceans, waterways and landfills. In addition, its outer part is made of 30% captured CO2.
Sophia Scott, one of brand’s creators, is currently sailing on the ST. Helena among an all-female team of athletes, sailors, scientists and storytellers, not only getting a chance to test the backpacks, but also producing a documentary that will expose the climate change effects during their journey to Kangerlussuaq, Greenland, where the fourth Extreme E race will be held on August 28-29.
“We are excited to be able to showcase these backpacks and our new CO2 developments on this exciting world stage. We constantly explore the planet looking for emerging technologies to stay at the forefront of green innovation”

Plastic pollution reduction and improving people’s lives are the two objectives of these sisters and now, with Extreme E, they will be able to promote its use from the planet’s most ruthless scenarios.
It is important to mention that GroundTruth calculates its CO2 emissions and compensates them in order to benefit wildlife through Wildlife Works.
