The companies Stellantis and Ample signed a binding agreement to establish a partnership in electric vehicle battery charging and swapping technology.
The innovation, the companies detail, is capable of providing a fully charged battery in less than five minutes.
The two partners have agreed to work to integrate Ample’s ‘Modular Battery Swapping’ solution into Stellantis electric vehicles.
The battery swapping technology allows the customer of an electric vehicle that stops at a swap station to exchange its depleted battery for a fully charged one in a matter of minutes.
Launch
According to a report in “20 Minutos”, the initial program is scheduled to begin in Madrid in 2024 using a fleet of 100 Fiat 500e within Stellantis‘ Free2move car sharing service.
Ricardo Stamatti, Stellantis Senior Vice President, Charging & Energy Business Unit, noted that the partnership with Ample is another example of how Stellantis is exploring all avenues that enable freedom of mobility for electric vehicle customers.

”In addition to other projects we are focused on, Ample‘s ‘Modular Battery Swapping‘ solution has the opportunity to offer our customers greater energy efficiency, exceptional performance and reduced range concerns,” he explained.
Ample‘s technology provides an alternative way to power electric vehicles that makes the refueling experience as fast and convenient as refueling with gas.
Ample batteries are designed to directly replace an electric vehicle’s original battery. This is made possible by modular batteries, which can fit into any electric vehicle, and would allow Stellantis to integrate the technology without the need to redesign its vehicle platforms.
