Jaguar Breaks Silence and Signs Up for Formula E’s Gen3 Era

Just a few days after Andretti confirmed its permanence in Formula E, it is now Jaguar Land Rover giving a confidence vote to the electric category which, despite BMW and Audi’s departures, appears to be solidly ahead of its third generation (Gen3).

The British manufacturer confirmed via a statement its “long-term” future in the series. “Jaguar Racing’s motorsport program will help Jaguar Land Rover to develop new sustainable technologies, and support the resurgence from 2025 of our all-electric luxury brand,” states the press release.

This decision shows the team was able to access data from the Federation Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) which shows parts suppliers Spark Racing Technology (chassis), Williams Advanced Engineering (battery) and Hankook (tires) to start their initial development of the new era.

In addition, this continuity responds to staff planning aimed to offer an all-electric road car line-up from 2025.

Gen3 Under Development

Jaguar CEO Thierry Bollore said, ” Formula E’s Gen3 era is an exciting new chapter for the all-electric world championship. It is already proving to be the perfect environment to design, collaborate, test and develop new sustainable technologies at pace.”

FIA President Jean Todt noted, “On the eve of another important technical milestone for Formula E World Championship, I welcome Jaguar Racing as a premium manufacturer committed to the next era of the discipline.”

“The Gen3 race car will establish principles that made the championship successful. It is positive to see a team like this one continuing with us on a shared mission, to develop electric vehicle technology and promote sustainable mobility,” he added.

Meanwhile, Formula E CEO Jamie Reigle highlighted that “Jaguar is a key player in the future of luxury electric vehicles. It is an affirmation of our shared purpose to have one of our earliest supporters, Jaguar Racing, commit to Gen3 ahead of 2022-23 season.”

Following Jaguar’s announcement, it is expected for Mercedes to take a stance on its permanence. Regarding Dragon Penske’s case, Formula E takes it for granted that they will continue, after revealing that Bosch will build their Gen3 powertrain.
