Munich Motor Show Continues to Impact: Bosch unveils groundbreaking EV Charging Cable

The week of the Munich Motor Show (IAA Mobility 2021) continues impressing with stunning innovations breaking new ground after a relatively quiet 2020, which slowed down brands in their technological development.

This time it was Bosch, which introduced an intelligent and flexible charging cable with integrated control and robust safety structure, with no need for a control box when recharging at 230 volts. This will result in a weight reduction, as well as a smaller storage volume for the electric vehicle.

It weighs less than three kilograms, 40% less than conventional cables. Because it has built-in adapters for type 2 and household sockets, drivers are free to recharge from a socket at home or from a point on the road, no second cable is needed.

Convenient Invention

Bosch engineers responsible for manufacturing the cable ensure that it is protected from possible overloading or overheating at any station used. In fact, its safety system will act immediately if necessary, deactivating the system moments before an accident could happen.

Uwe Gackstatter, Bosch Powertrain Solutions Division President noted that with this universal charging device, the company is making electric mobility even more convenient for the customer.

“We want the new cable to be standard equipment for electric vehicles,” he said. The executive further detailed that they intend to start marketing the product to automakers and drivers in mid-2022.

Bosch developers have managed to significantly reduce all electronic components to a level where they can be integrated into the cable connectors. This new engineering will result in its use in other devices to be launched by the brand in the near future.

The German company is deeply involved in sustainable electric mobility, with a portfolio of propulsion systems broader than any other organization: from electrified bicycles and automobiles, to construction machinery.

The range includes both battery and fuel cell solutions, as well as recharging services and the cloud-based battery management service that enhances battery performance and lifespan.

About IAA Mobility

The Motor Show is a public exhibition of vehicles, usually organized by manufacturers, and coordinated by the International Organization of Automobile Manufacturers, responsible for setting dates and locations.

New models, prototypes, racing cars and classic cars are usually exhibited at the event, held annually or every two years.
