Being on his first year as a Formula E driver hasn’t limited Sacha Fenestraz from proving he can feature in the complex electric single-seater series.

After achieving his first Julius Baer Pole Position in Cape Town, Fenestraz and Nissan are aiming for bigger results for the rest of season 9, but there is still a lot of fine-tuning to be done.

He achieved the “fastest lap in Formula E” after averaging a speed of 154.987 km/h during his impressive qualifying lap. However, his podium chances fizzled out at the end after contact with Envision Racing’s Nick Cassidy.

Incident Details

Speaking about his crash at Turn 7, the Nissan driver called it a “racing incident,” but referred to his rival’s performance. “He just touched me a little bit on the left rear, I lost the rear and hit the wall,” Fenestraz said.

“It was game over for me I lost the right rear wheel. It was a shame because we were having a great race and I think the podium opportunity was there.”

However, after his heartbreak in Cape Town and getting stuck in Hyderabad when Jaguar TCS Racing’s Sam Bird crashed into his teammate, the French-Argentinean driver says he learned that these moments can happen in Formula E.

“There’s still a bit of disappointment, but there’s also that emotion inside me of wanting to get back to normal,” Fenestraz adds when talking about how he is recovering.

Focus for Brazil

Fenestraz hopes to get back in the groove for Brazil. “I’m very excited for Sao Paulo, because it’s going to be the closest race to my home and I have a lot of people coming to watch.”

Although Fenestraz had the opportunity to compete in the final race of the GEN2 era, replacing Antonio Giovinazzi who was injured with DRAGON / PENSKE AUTOSPORT in Seoul, he noted that the new-era machines are completely different from what he expected previously.

“I experienced GEN2 in Seoul, but I was also a reserve driver with Jaguar from the beginning of 2021, so I’ve been driving around a bit. It’s extremely different from what I’ve experienced before,” he maintained.

Formula E returns next March 25 in Sao Paulo, a venue of great tradition for world motorsport.
