In recent years, there has been a growing awareness of the importance of sustainability and the need to take action to protect our planet. It is in this context that prominent figures have decided to use their influence to support initiatives that promote positive change, such as Rafael Nadal.

Recently, Nadal took an important step by joining the E1 Series as a team owner, a project that electrifies racing on water while raising awareness about the importance of conserving marine ecosystems.

Behind this initiative is Rodi Basso, former commercial director of McLaren Motorsport and NASA consultant, who together with the founder of Formula E and Extreme E, Alejandro Agag, started the path towards sustainability in the world of sport.

In that sense, Nadal’s interest in the E1 Series is no coincidence. According to Basso’s statements, before committing to the project, the 22-time Grand Slam champion took the time to understand its scope and potential impact.

Nadal’s Reason

In Nadal’s words, relayed to his managers and team, “When I stop playing, find me a project with impact.” This statement reflects the mindset of an athlete committed to causes beyond his sport along with the active pursuit of opportunities to contribute to the well-being of the planet.

The E1 Series represents just that: a space where sport meets sustainability to drive meaningful change. Thus, Nadal’s decision responds to his concern for the environment with recognition of the transformative potential of sport as a platform to spread positive messages and promote concrete actions.

Recall that this category does not neglect to provide a spectacle for sports fans, but to do so, it builds the foundation for a more sustainable future in the field of aquatic competitions by adopting clean technologies and promoting responsible practices.
