Months of work have finally paid off. Formula E held in Monaco the official presentation of the third generation (Gen3) single-seater that will be used from the ninth season onwards, which highlights greater power in the power unit and efficiency when distributing energy.
The vehicle had already been tested by certain championship teams during the preseason of the current season. However, the public had not known the official vehicle of the next edition of this sport, which comes with the latest technology, as well as a striking aerodynamic and aesthetic design.
Developed by engineers and sustainability experts from the FIA and Formula E, the car shows up aerodynamic lines that start from the nose and end near the rear wheels. The front wing features an inward rake angle at the endplates to ensure airflow is internal and dispersed across the body, while the rear wing has raised sidewalls to increase downforce and grip on the floor.
“The Gen3 represents the ambitious third age of Formula E and the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship. With every generation of race car we push the boundaries of possibility in EV technology further and the Gen3 is our most ambitious project to date. The eyes of the world are on the Principality for the Monaco E-Prix and we are proud to reveal a car that been two years in the making in the historic home of motorsport”, said Alejandro Agag, Founder and Charmain of FE.

Formula E Gen3 in Detail
As described by the top electric single-seater category, this vehicle will be the most efficient in the world. It will also feature front and rear motors to have a rear power of 600 kW, combined, 250 kW at the front and 300 kW at the rear, the first time this has been seen in a formula car. Because of this modification, it will not have rear hydraulic brakes.
320 kilometers per hour (200 mph) will be reached as track speed thanks to the 350 kW of power provided by the electric power unit with a power-to-weight ratio efficiency higher than what an internal combustion engine can provide, even the Formula E Gen3 single-seater doubles such performance.
Compared to an internal combustion power unit, the Gen3 electrified engines have the ability to convert up to 90% of electrical energy into mechanical energy (motion), while an ICE converts 40%.
The vehicle’s weight and size have been reduced to encourage wing-to-wing chases. In addition, a kinetic energy recovery system (KERS) will be in charge of recovering the energy spent in braking, where 40% of it will come from the recently described replenishment.
As if that were not enough, the sustainability that the car will offer will not only be when it is used, because once its useful life comes to an end, tires, broken parts and battery cells will be recycled. It should be noted that the tires will be composed of 26% environmentally friendly materials.
Formula E was the first sport to be certified as carbon neutral, therefore, the vehicle will be released under this commandment, and before this, Jamie Reigle, CEO of the category, was satisfied with the result obtained.
