ABT is one of the founding brands of Formula E. For various reasons, the team left the series, but has decided to return following a key partnership with CUPRA for the Gen3 era of Formula E.
With Robin Frinjs and Nico Mueller as official drivers, the squad will be looking to get to the top of the standings during the upcoming season 9 of the electric single-seater series.
Frijns has been with ABT for a long time outside of Formula E, and says he is ready to take on the new challenge in the company’s colors.
After testing in Valencia, the Dutchman and the team are aware that there are challenges to overcome before the first day in Mexico, scheduled for January 14.
“I’ve known ABT for quite some time. I drove with them in DTM together with Nico (Mueller), so I’m happy to be back with the team, it’s one I loved from day one,” said Frinjs.

Car Impressions
The Dutchman explained that the car is still quite new, so they have some hurdles to work out. “I think at the beginning of the season we will see people working and trying to solve and improve their problems.”
“Those who have their car in order will be the team to beat. We might have a little bit of difficulty at the beginning given the problems we’re having right now. But I think by mid-season we will be more sorted and hopefully we can score some good points,” said Frinjs.
For his part, Mueller is back after a year out of Formula E, and was a natural choice for ABT given their long and fruitful relationship with German touring cars that has brought them many trophies in recent years.
He agrees with Frijns about the work ahead of them, but is confident they can bloody some noses in Season 9.
“Obviously, ABT is back as a team and I’m also back after a short break as a driver. Coming back as a group, together with Robin, is exciting and very motivating, as the team has a successful history in the championship,” he noted.
Mueller feels he still has a lot of level to prove on the tracks and believes the time is right for a triumphant return in the Gen3 era.
