The unfortunate news that FIA ETCR will not compete in 2023 after two great seasons has been known for weeks. Although it is not known if it has been permanently cancelled, what is certain is that the third campaign of the series will not take place this year due to the absence of Discovery Sports Events as promoter of the category.
It should be noted that FIA ETCR was a strategic ally of ERA Championship, the 100% electric single-seater category dedicated to young talents, which raced in the same places the series visited. Despite its cancellation, ERA has reaffirmed its commitment to move forward, develop new talent and contribute to a sustainable electric future.
“While we share the disappointment of the racing community and fans at the cancellation of the 2023 season of the FIA ETCR Electric Touring Car World Cup, we are excited to continue to bring electric racing to a wider audience,” the series said through an official press release.

Moving Forward
ERA Championship has made it clear that one of the goals of the series is to partner with innovative companies so that they can contribute to the transformation and way in which motorsport racing is participated in, elevating the true potential that electric vehicles are capable of delivering.
“We believe that electric racing is the future of motorsport and we are committed to bringing that future to life in a way that is inclusive, equitable and accessible to all,” says ERA Championship. In light of this, the category has revealed that they are working hard to finalize plans for the 2023 season and beyond.
However, for the moment they have not confirmed additional details, although they assure that they are “committed to providing an exciting and unforgettable electric racing experience that is true to their values and standards”, asserting that they will inform as soon as possible about the next steps to follow.
