Formula E organizers continue to develop a plan to introduce a full and electrified youth championship ladder despite the fact that the pandemic has delayed various activities.
Formula E co-founder and championship director Alberto Longo told Autosport that the series is working to create a fully electric single-seater ladder.
“We obviously are planning to have a full ladder to Formula E. We need to electrify the whole ladder starting even from karting. We have a very aggressive and very clear targets on that.”
Longo explained that although COVID has been a difficult obstacle in all these plans, they are still working on another category that would offer different championships under Formula E.

He also described the importance of the parts used in Gen1 machines as the basis for a junior category. “Gen1 cars at the moment have been, more or less, not all but some of them, are being owned now by the collectors. They really wanted to have a piece of history, which is the Gen1 car,” he noted.
This refers in part to Adrián Campos Jr who took demonstration laps at the recent Valencia E-Prix in memory of his late father aboard the title-winning Gen1 car of the inaugural Formula E champion by Nelson Piquet Jr, which was rebuilt recently before the tribute.
Furthermore, there are plans underway to beef up the Formula E calendar on all competition weekends, with the offer for the Vancouver E-Prix in July 2022 notably including the proposal for a celebrity race.
This would follow the short-lived e-Touring Car Challenge that used standardized race-ready Volkswagen e-Golfs and preceded the Hong Kong E-Prix in 2016.
