“It looked more like bumper cars than anything else”, were the harsh words used by Mercedes-EQ driver Stoffel Vandoorne, who openly complained about the quantity of bodywork pieces on track as a result of multiple collisions at the London E-Prix.

The Belgian rated last weekend’s race as “quite amateurish”, based on the massive debris on the circuit, preventing the 13th Formula E race day from running properly.

Vandoorne told Motorsport.com he expects to move up on the standings during the 14th and 15th races to be held in Berlin, the final weekend of season 7 of the electric single-seater competition.

Crashes Announced

Days before the London E-Prix, various E-Prix players were concerned about the track layout and requested adjustments, claiming that it had many long straights, increasing energy availability and therefore, more crashes, as drivers would not need to save it in order to reach the finish line.

“This is a championship where we work on energy management. We can never have enough,” expressed Audi director Allan McNish.

Vandoorne himself was among the protagonists who warned about the crashes: “It’s something Formula E has to consider because a fast lap and an energy-saving lap are basically the same thing.”

The driver, stated that Formula E cars “are not made for this”. “The race is not going to be good because there is no economy. We will have crashes when people try to overtake. It’s going to be quite complicated if nothing changes,” were Stoffel’s predictions, which finally came true.

The ABB FIA Formula E will return on August 14 and 15 to close the “season seaven” in the German capital, a date at which any of the top 10 in the drivers’ standings can take the title, including defending champion António Félix da Costa.
