Having scored more than 1,000 points from his Formula E debut since the opening season (2015-2016) has been enough for Envision Virgin Racing to confirm driver Robin Frijns for the 2021-2022 season, who has played a major part in this success.

The 29-year-old Dutch driver had an interesting season in the electric single-seater competition. He currently holds second place in the championship, scoring 13 points in his last race in London, where he took fourth place and set the fastest lap.

Frijns was happy to ensure a new season with his team: “We have a great car and a very talented and dedicated team doing a phenomenal job. Together we have achieved a lot of consistency in one of the most unpredictable and competitive racing series in the world, which is not easy and one of the reasons we are at the top of the standings,” he said.

On Frijns’ renewal, EVR CEO and CTO Sylvain Filippi hailed the driver’s courage in every race, while praising his “teamwork spirit.”

“His mature approach for racing and his strategic thinking, have resulted in a very solid performance on track, which has greatly contributed to the team’s success” Filippi added.

With Nick Cassidy in seventh place, Envision Virgin Racing leads overall team standings with 165 points, seven points ahead of its closest contender, Mercedes-EQ, which is on the rise.

Frijns’ Track Record

After being with Andretti during 2015/16 and 2016/17 Formula E campaigns, and with Envision Virgin Racing for 2018/19, Robin took a one-year break to join EVR’s line-up for 2019/20.

On his return, he finished fourth in the Championship, a position that reflected his great season.

For the date, the Dutchman is racing for the title, just six points off the lead held by Mercedes-EQ countryman, Nyck de Vries.
