Electric competitions continue to expand in motorsport. The successful cases of Formula E, MotoE and the brilliant debut of the Extreme E, have opened opportunities for other competitions of these characteristics to delight fans.

KTM, the Austrian motorcycle manufacturer and racing team, has formed an alliance with Infront Moto Racing, the company responsible for the TV and marketing rights of FIM Motocross World Championship, to create a European Junior e-Motocross tournament to be developed over the next two years.

One of the objectives is to promote a future generation of electric-powered junior motocross riders.

Besides the incorporation of the KTM SX-E 5 into the KTM Junior Supercross exhibition races within the AMA Supercross Championship, and the possibility of competing with this model at the Mini-E class in the US junior championships, the European Junior e-Motocross Championship is an important step forward for the brand in international electric motorcycle racing.

Format

Junior E-Motocross will have five events, for riders between 6 and 8 years old, and will be held at the same time as the Motocross of Nations event in Italy.

The prize for the winner will be the possibility to spend three days with an official racing team. But if the winning rider also does so on a KTM SX-E 5, he/she will receive exclusive access and a personalized training experience with the Red Bull KTM Factory Racing team alongside their official riders.

The structure of each race in this new series will consist of free practice and timed practice, followed by two heats on an adapted variant of each Grand Prix circuit.

Boosting Electric Mobility

The KTM electric drive technology team within the R&D division has been working on electric mobility products since mid-2000s.

Almost 10 years ago, they introduced their first KTM Freeride E-SX and E-XC models, followed by the KTM Freeride E-SM back in 2015. Since then, KTM has continued to focus on this segment, creating machines powered by futuristic, state-of-the-art electric technology.
