This weekend the fourth round of the FIM Enel MotoE World Cup will take place at the legendary Assen track in the Netherlands. The stage will allow us to see the intense rivalry that has been generated between Alessadro Zaccone (leader of the competition by one point) and Dominique Aegerter.

The Assen circuit is considered “The Cathedral of Motorcycling”. the racetrack was inaugurated and designed in 1955 especially for the Netherlands Grand Prix of the Speed Motorcycle World Championship.

Likewise, the track also hosts races for the World Superbike Championship and the British Championship and has the capacity for 100,000 spectators.

Regarding the route, its length has changed over the years since it was initially 7,705 meters long but was shortened to 6,134 in 1984, 5,997 in 2005 and then 4,750 meters in 2006.

It is worth mentioning that the Dutch Grand Prix by tradition always takes place on the last weekend of June. The previous year the track was on the 2020 season calendar but the Dutch government announced a ban on all mass events due to the Coronavirus pandemic until at least September 1, so it was finally canceled.

The layout of the circuit makes the race very technical for the drivers and with little margin for error. Despite the changes to the route that have been carried out in the last 18 years, Assen is classified as a “safety circuit” that avoids large crashes and the proximity of loopholes in curves.

In this sense, the curves are banked (slightly inclined) and the surface is very adherent, even in wet conditions.

Apart from the Zaccone-Aegerter rivalry, we must pay special attention to what the Spaniards Jordi Torres and Miquel Pons can do, since both are in third and fourth place in the drivers’ championship. Likewise, the Brazilian Eric Granado has been one of the protagonists of the season by winning the French Grand Prix and also obtaining all the E-Poles of the series so far.
