Eurosport’s work
As a sports event’s subsidiary of Discovery Inc, a global media group, Eurosport Events has developed a commitment to being sustainable in its areas of operation: measuring, monitoring and reducing its impact, forging sustainable connections with its supply chain, partners and improving the local communities where it is operational.
To fulfill its responsibilities and strive for permanent improvement, Eurosport Events established a management system to identify its environmental impact as a promoter and within the global scope of its series. This is being done to reinforce prevention and protection of the ecosystem, in addition to validating processes and establishing the traceability of their actions with annual improvements.
Eurosport Events’ environmental actions under its FIA Three Star Environmental Accreditation add to the important path of electric mobility that it is following through the promotion of PURE ETCR, which has been upgraded to the FIA eTouring Car World Cup category as of 2022 and the FIA Electric GT Championship, which launches in 2023.
Eurosport Events is also a signatory to the United Nations Framework for Sport for Climate Action. This supports a number of goals, recognizing the sports sector’s contribution to climate change and its responsibility to drive climate neutrality for a safer planet.
Merits for accreditation
Guided by certified sustainability experts, Eurosport Events measured the carbon footprint of its Paris headquarters and motorsport series on a scope three basis. The calculation helped identify Eurosport Events’ important emissions positions to take reduction measures starting in 2021, including optimizing schedule logistics and not stipulating air travel for their series.
In addition, Eurosport Events requires that the venues and promoters with whom it collaborates put environmental improvements and well-being in their main strategies through signed agreements. All suppliers must also respect the developer’s environmental standards.
Felipe Calderón, President of the FIA Environment and Sustainability Commission, is pleased with the mention “We congratulate Eurosport Events not only for being among the first promoters to join the FIA Environmental Accreditation Program, but also for committing to climate action by signing the Sports Program for Climate Action”.
