The main ally and promoter of the PURE ETCR, Eurosport Events, received a prestigious recognition from the International Automobile Federation (Federation Internationale de l’Automobile, FIA), which valued the company’s commitment to sustainability and the environment.

It is the three-star environmental accreditation awarded by the highest motor sport body, after a rigorous auditing process in line with the environmental certification framework.

The FIA Environmental Accreditation Program aims to help motorsport and mobility stakeholders around the world measure and improve their environmental performance through a three-level evaluation process.

Through the WTCR – FIA World Touring Car Cup and the FIA European Rally Championship, promoter Eurosport Events joins the FIA Formula One World Championship and the ABB FIA Formula E Championship as one of only three promoters in achieve the Three Star Environmental Accreditation so far.

Eurosport’s work

As a sports event’s subsidiary of Discovery Inc, a global media group, Eurosport Events has developed a commitment to being sustainable in its areas of operation: measuring, monitoring and reducing its impact, forging sustainable connections with its supply chain, partners and improving the local communities where it is operational.

To fulfill its responsibilities and strive for permanent improvement, Eurosport Events established a management system to identify its environmental impact as a promoter and within the global scope of its series. This is being done to reinforce prevention and protection of the ecosystem, in addition to validating processes and establishing the traceability of their actions with annual improvements.

Eurosport Events’ environmental actions under its FIA Three Star Environmental Accreditation add to the important path of electric mobility that it is following through the promotion of PURE ETCR, which has been upgraded to the FIA eTouring Car World Cup category as of 2022 and the FIA Electric GT Championship, which launches in 2023.

Eurosport Events is also a signatory to the United Nations Framework for Sport for Climate Action. This supports a number of goals, recognizing the sports sector’s contribution to climate change and its responsibility to drive climate neutrality for a safer planet.

Merits for accreditation

Guided by certified sustainability experts, Eurosport Events measured the carbon footprint of its Paris headquarters and motorsport series on a scope three basis. The calculation helped identify Eurosport Events’ important emissions positions to take reduction measures starting in 2021, including optimizing schedule logistics and not stipulating air travel for their series.

In addition, Eurosport Events requires that the venues and promoters with whom it collaborates put environmental improvements and well-being in their main strategies through signed agreements. All suppliers must also respect the developer’s environmental standards.

Felipe Calderón, President of the FIA Environment and Sustainability Commission, is pleased with the mention “We congratulate Eurosport Events not only for being among the first promoters to join the FIA Environmental Accreditation Program, but also for committing to climate action by signing the Sports Program for Climate Action”.

“This is the kind of leadership that is required for our sport to advance in addressing the environmental challenges facing our planet. As we reduce our environmental impact and lead in sustainable innovation, we are confident that we will accelerate the transition to a sustainable future for all,”he added.

François Ribeiro, Director of Eurosport Events, stated “as an organization, we are very proud to achieve this level of certification. Going forward, this is a great statement in terms of our environmental commitment, already underlined by our working practices and by the creation of PURE ETCR, the all-electric multi-brand passenger car series.”

“In line with Discovery’s global sustainable policy, Eurosport Events continues to work hard to better demonstrate, through concrete deeds, our responsibility to society and our commitment to sustainability to protect the environment and human development for both our clients as of ourselves ”, he explained.

Eurosport’s achievement gives even more prestige to the PURE ETCR, a series of electric passenger cars, which will start in Vallelunga, Italy on June 18 with the promise of bringing together the best teams and drivers to offer a quality show.
