The close Formula E season arrives in Rome this weekend. A single point separates the two drivers at the top of the standings at the Hankook Rome E-Prix 2023 and the last clash on the international street circuit before the World Championship in London.

Avalanche Andretti Formula E Team driver Jake Dennis is above Envision Racing’s Nick Cassidy in the battle for the drivers’ title. While it is an extreme mathematical possibility for Dennis to secure the title in Italy’s capital, the likelihood of it all being defined on the final day is greater.

Nick Cassidy is in the fight thanks to his win at the Southwire Portland E-Prix that closed the gap to Dennis, whose second place was enough to propel him to the top of the standings.

Despite winning the first joust of the GEN3 race car era in Mexico City in January, and scoring eight podium finishes since then, Dennis has eluded another trip to the top step so far with just four races in the 16-turn season.

How Things Are Going

No Formula E driver has managed to exert his dominance in the GEN3 race car this season to build a convincing lead at the top of the championship.

TAG Heuer Porsche Formula E team driver Pascal Wehrlein was able to hold the lead in the standings in several races since Round 2 in Diriyah, but Cassidy and Dennis have had an impressive second half of the campaign.

Jaguar TCS Racing’s Mitch Evans has fought tenaciously to stay in contention in fourth place, despite some friendly-fire mishaps that forced him out of two races and cost him critical championship points.

Meanwhile, the only two-time Formula E champion, Jean-Éric Vergne (DS PENSKE) remained in the top 5, 57 points off the top. His teammate and reigning world champion Stoffel Vandoorne (DS PENSKE) is 11th in the standings, more than 112 points back and guaranteed not to retain the title.

As far as the world team championship standings are concerned, TAG Heuer Porsche Formula E Team has clung to its lead since early in the tournament, but only six points separate them from Envision Racing in second place. Jaguar TCS Racing is just behind Envision, its customer team, in third place.
