Over the past few weeks, NIO 333 has been in the spotlight due to its structural moves. Now, it is once again making headlines after Dan Ticktum was confirmed as the team’s driver for ABB FIA Formula E (FE) season 8, forming a promising duo alongside Oliver Turvey.
The team’s recent organizational changes and the addition of Ticktum send a clear message to the other competitors in the top electric motorsport series: NIO 333 is serious about the eighth season. Ticktum’s youth and explosiveness will create an interesting mix alongside the veteran Turvey.
The 22-year-old Briton will join the electrified transition of motorsport after two seasons in the pre-Formula 1 (Formula 2, formerly GP2 Series). In his rookie campaign he managed to win his home Grand Prix, and during the 2021 campaign currently underway, he ranks fourth in the overall drivers’ standings.
“I’m very happy to be racing with the NIO 333 Formula E team. It’s going to be a big challenge, as I haven’t had much time to prepare for next week’s test, and Formula E is complicated, but it will be very exciting,” said Dan Ticktum after his confirmation.

At the end of the 2021 Formula 2 season, Ticktum will have to change his mindset quickly, because although in Formula E he will also be behind a single-seater, the competitions bring totally different experiences, and therefore, the skill behind the wheel will make the difference in this transition stage ahead.
“I’m looking forward to it (FE debut), both mentally and physically. I’ve had a fantastic few days with the team at Silverstone this week and hopefully we can try to progress next season and get further up the grid.”
On the other hand, Vincent Wang, team CEO, confessed to be totally impressed by the two victories his new driver scored at the Macau Grand Prix, as it is one of the most recognized and famous races in the world, which speaks very well about Ticktum’s talent when the visor comes down.
“Although he has endured some hardships during his career, I believe his experience will pave the way for success. He is a bright new young star who will shine in Formula E,” notes Wang. In this way, NIO 333 will create a mix between experience and youth, where Oliver Turvey will surely contribute all his knowledge for the sporting growth of his new teammate.
“Although we know that the standard in Formula E is very high, I think we have taken some positive steps forward and I can’t wait to get out on track for the official test next week in Valencia,” said Turvey.
