After announcing technological advances on a battery capable of providing 1,000 kilometers of autonomy to electric vehicles, CATL finally started large-scale production of the project that may represent a before and after in electromobility.
The manufacturer that leads the battery market globally successfully achieved the mass construction of its high-energy density Qilin.
Introduced in August 2022, the Qilin battery will provide electric vehicles with a range of 1,000 kilometers. In addition, the company announced that ZEEKR 009 cars would carry this equipment.

Power
The key to the Qilin battery is that it packs a lot of power into a small space, thanks to advances in chemistry and assembly. The company notes that the battery has an energy density of 225 Wh/kg and will be 13% more powerful than the 4860 battery that Tesla recently began using in its Model Ys.
CATL also explained that Qilin can be charged from 10% to 80% in as little as 10 minutes, making this battery unique in the market.
Another attribute is its disruptive water-cooling design. By placing functional liquid-cooled parts between adjacent cells, the innovative large-area cell cooling technology increases the heat transfer area four times.
In addition, it reduces thermal control time by half and supports hot start in 5 minutes and fast charging in 10 minutes. It enables the cell to cool down quickly under extreme circumstances, effectively preventing abnormal thermal conduction between cells.
In addition, it has achieved thermal stability and thermal safety for all chemical systems, making it compatible with higher energy density materials.
Market Leader
CATL remains at the forefront of electric vehicle battery development, not only in China, where it is headquartered, but worldwide.
Last February, the company once again emerged as the largest battery market share holder on the planet for the sixth consecutive year, covering nearly 25% more than second-place LG Energy Solution.
