The great success of the Portland E-Prix, with great fan attendance and a spectacle starring the drivers on track, has led Formula E to consider including another race in the United States.

The electric category recently revealed a preliminary schedule of 17 races in 13 locations, with the expected arrival in Tokyo as the only new event confirmed to date. Three dates remain to be confirmed, two at the beginning of the calendar in February and a third at the end of the season in May.

The new CEO of Formula E, Jeff Dodds stated that it is possible that a new destination in the country of the stars and stripes will be added. “We have three E-Prixes to be confirmed on the calendar, and we’re in a lot of conversations with different cities. I wouldn’t rule out one of them being in North America, joining Portland.”

In a meeting with the media, Dodds also responded positively when asked about reports that Formula E is looking to host a race around Los Angeles Dodger Stadium, potentially by 2025.

“Los Angeles is one of the places we’re considering, another big U.S. city around Dodger Stadium, in or around, who knows! But we’re excited about the conversations we’re having with them.”

The 2024 season will most likely see the first two races go to Cape Town and Hyderabad, pending the outcome of financial negotiations, but the third remains more open, with the championship conducting negotiations with as many as five venues.

A return to Seoul, where the category held its finale in the 2021/22 season, and a race in Malaga have been touted as possibilities.

“China is hugely important, it’s the biggest market for electric cars. It is one of the potential options. So is North America, which is a huge market for the category and the teams. Spain has a huge following in motorsport, both in Formula 1 and MotoGP. We have many ongoing conversations, all very advanced,” said Dodds.

For his part, Formula E Co-Founder and Director Alberto Longo clarified that he expects both Cape Town and Hyderabad to return to the calendar next season following the success of the debut events of the current campaign.
