Gray Leadbetter, a young motorsport prodigy, has shared her experience following her debut in Extreme E, an off-road racing series that combines the adrenaline of competition with environmental awareness.
Leadbetter, who has been involved in various motorsport disciplines, highlighted how her previous experience has prepared her to face this new challenge. In an interview with Extreme E, she spoke about how driving off-road vehicles has been crucial for her adaptation and success in the series.
“Driving off-road vehicles before, especially side-by-sides, helped me immensely in picking up speed. There are some similarities in how the car moves on the track and how it weighs,” Leadbetter commented.

Extreme E as a platform
In addition to her experience with off-road vehicles, Leadbetter mentioned that her time in sprint cars has also been beneficial. “It’s similar with the sprint cars I’ve driven in terms of track time and preparation,” she said.
“As a driver, you have to do everything you can to achieve it as quickly as possible and then maximize your performance from there,” she continued. Additionally, Leadbetter shared her racing philosophy in this new venture.
“It’s about racing as hard as we can and seeing what happens. That’s the main thing.” Finally, she spoke about the excitement of competing alongside experienced and renowned drivers in Extreme E. “Jimmie hasn’t competed in off-road racing for several years, so it’s an exciting prospect.”
Thus, competing alongside legends is a unique opportunity to learn and grow in her career filled with learning, competition, and the chance to shine.
