The third round of the 2024 FIM Enel MotoE World Championship brought significant changes in the standings, as Nicholas Spinelli (Tech3 E-Racing), winner of three of the first four races, suffered two crashes, resulting in championship leader Mattia Casadei (LCR E-Team) standing out on track and in the standings.
However, the podium streak was interrupted with a sixth-place finish in Race 1, followed by his first mistake of the season in Race 2, where he crashed. Thus, in the ensuing battle, Kevin Zannoni (Openbank Aspar Team), who finished on the podium in Race 1, shone with a brilliant final lap to clinch his first victory and lead in points.
On the other hand, the winner of the first race, rookie Oscar Gutiérrez (Axxis-MSI), secured a second-place finish in the second outing to climb to third place in the overall standings.
This leaves Casadei in second place, sandwiched between two riders who had never won before Saturday in Barcelona, with three competitors separated by just two points. Spinelli, on the other hand, sits in fourth place, 13 points off the top.
MotoE: The outlook at Mugello
The mission at Mugello will be clear for Spinelli and Casadei: to avoid further errors and seek glory at home. Zannoni also has the opportunity to shine on his home turf and needs to maintain the pressure to stay in the fight for the lead after a recent streak.
The same applies to another Italian, Alessandro Zaccone (Tech3 E-Racing), who secured his first podium since competing for the title in 2021. His speed has been increasing throughout 2024, making him a serious contender.
Moreover, Matteo Ferrari (Felo Gresini MotoE) and Andrea Mantovani (KLINT Forward Factory Team) will seek to improve their seasons, which have been tough so far. Likewise, Hector Garzo (Dynavolt Intact GP MotoE) and Jordi Torres (Openbank Aspar Team) will aim to secure the success that eluded them on their home turf.
Finally, Eric Granado (LCR E-Team), after displaying speed in Barcelona and securing a podium in Race 1, will look to bounce back after his retirement in Race 2, remembering that the Brazilian’s last victory in Mugello occurred last season.
