Jordi Torres feels pressure being the defending champion of the MotoE

The excitement of the 2021 MotoE season has already started with a surprising result for the victory of the Italian team Enérgica, Alessandro Zaccone. However, this is just beginning and all drivers have their options intact for the title.

This is the case of the Spanish Jordi Torres, defending champion of the category, who revealed in an interview with the newspaper As his aspirations to defend the title. The pilot finished third in the Spanish GP and admitted feeling pressure for this new harvest.

“I could say that I feel more pressure because I am going to be everyone’s goal,” Torres told As. “I already made it (to be champion) and I can do it again”. He acknowledged that this year “is going to be more difficult” because there is more speed on the track.

News for the season

When asked about the innovations that his bike brings in this new campaign, Torres explained: “We have a rear tire that has much more grip, which means that it requires a different style of riding.”

“It is a motorcycle that runs little, just to say, because it runs like the Moto3, 260 top speed, but then in tighter corners it still has the same thrust power,” he added.

On the front rim, the Spaniard explained that he also has the same grip capacity. He also said that despite not having been able to do the corresponding tests with said tire, there have been no problems or observations within the team on the subject.

Torres’ motorcycle, who participates with the Enérgica team, weighs 263 kilos (580 pounds) with reinforced rubbers that also have a special casing in the event of an accident.

Regarding the batteries used by the vehicle, he stressed that they are the same as those used in 2020, with the novelty of having a car that recharges them by seven percent, “which allows you to take one more spin,” he said.

Track safety

Despite the questions that arise about the safety of this new electrical technology, Jordi Torres replied that he feels “very safe when driving it.” “It is true that you hear about everything, like the one that heats up a bit can burn, that the chemical fire never goes out … Very strong things, but nothing really serious has ever happened.”

“I’m not scared at all. Then you get on and it goes like a normal motorcycle. It is a mega fun category in all aspects, where everyone goes to canyon and anything can happen. The format is good and you have to have everything very clear,” he assured.

He was grateful that so far he has not suffered any falls, a situation that he considers “an achievement.” “Last year we did not spend anything on material. I had Sete’s motorcycle and I ended up with Sete’s motorcycle. Only one handle and because a mechanic stopped it,” said Torres.

Despite admitting that he feels the stares behind him for being the current monarch, he does not feel like a favorite and shifts the spotlight towards the Swiss Dominique Aegerter and the Brazilian Eric Granado, whom he sees as the main favorites after dominating widely in the preseason.

He assured that the MotoE this year will give a great show for the fans and promised to be “at the top” to find a new title.
