“I am not in negotiations to race in Formula E with ABT Cupra or any other team. Words have been put in my mouth, and I would like to clarify that I am not currently considering a return to motorsport.” That’s how blunt Sebastian Vettel was in denying once again his arrival in the series.
Vettel said goodbye to F1 at the end of last year after 299 Grand Prix and four titles, with the promise that he would return in the future, but without specifying when or in which category, focusing on spending a sabbatical year with his family in Switzerland.
The press revived rumors of Vettel’s arrival in Formula E, after in a recent interview, the head of ABT-Cupra, Thomas Biermaier, raised the possibility of the German competing in the category for the German team.
Upon confirming Robin Frijns‘ departure from the team, and being asked about a replacement, Biermaier was ‘suggestive’ in an interview given to the German channel Ran: “Maybe [the seat] will go to Switzerland, there are drivers there who are very committed to the environment and who do a lot of work related to sustainability.”

The Promoters Want Him Too
Formula E founder Alejandro Agag has admitted that he has tried by all means to convince Vettel to count on his presence on the 2024 grid.
However, he maintains that the former F1 driver is too busy with his non-racing affairs and has pointed out that he already has a future job in mind.
“I’ve been trying to convince Sebastian to come to Formula E. He’s very busy and also I think he already has a future job in mind, I hear. He is very committed to sustainability and to many of the values we share. We were not in the right place at the right time!” explained Alejandro Agag in closing.
