Ahead of the Mexico E-Prix, we mentioned how well TAG Heuer Porsche has been doing in Mexico, so their competitiveness was on the table and their rivals could not be complacent at the third round of the ABB FIA Formula E. The predictions were fulfilled after a flawlessly executed race by Pascal Wehrlein and Andre Lotterer to sign a historic 1-2.

The Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez was the main stage that served as a showcase for the great German performance, where Wehrlein led the competition from pole position, defending his place and withstanding the siege of Edoardo Mortara, one of the strongest drivers of Formula E at the service of ROKiT Venturi Racing.

The exhibition by Porsche came in perfect form. An incredible strategy marked a precise attack over the final 15 minutes on Mortara and Jean-Eric Vergne (DS TECHEETAH), chasing them and setting a solid pace from that moment on, which made a remarkable difference on the Mexican circuit.

The Germans did very well on pole position at the previous edition of the e-Prix of Mexico. However, they were unable to capitalize on that pace at the race. With full knowledge of this, Wehrlein and Lotterer knew that the rhythm was there, and despite being a different circuit (Puebla was raced in 2020), the sensations in Aztec territory were favorable.

The famous Foro Sol area was the main witness of the TAG Heuer Porsche exhibition. On the other hand, the current champion of the series, Nick de Vries (Mercedes-QE), finished sixth, ahead of the Dutchman from Envision Racing, Robin Frijns. This victory puts Pascal Wehrlein in third place of the overall drivers’ championship, led by Mortara with a five-point gap over de Vries.

A race that undoubtedly brought several emotions and left for granted that the fight will be on track, with several candidates and a lot of excitement, adrenaline and speed to be discovered. Now, Formula E will prepare for the fourth round of the 100% electric single-seater championship, to be held on April 9, in Rome.
