The objective of having a neutral carbon footprint by 2050 has allowed Audi to receive the highest decoration awarded by the FIA (Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile): the three-star environmental accreditation.
Audi’s participation in the Formula E World Championship, where the German manufacturer offsets all the CO2 emissions they leave despite their efforts not to pollute, is just a piece of the puzzle that has given (and will continue to give) great benefits to planet earth.
Audi has worked hard to implement exemplary environmental standards. One of them is based on the ambitious plan to make all its facilities carbon neutral by 2025.
“We closely monitor our environmental impact on and off the racetrack, especially in terms of how we can keep reducing and improving it,” says Julius Seebach, Managing Director of Audi Sport GmbH with the responsibility for Audi Motorsport.
On the other hand, the president of the FIA, Jean Todt, showed satisfaction when granting the distinction to the brand with the four rings: “The FIA wishes to congratulate Audi Sport on receiving the Three-star status, which is the highest level of certification within the FIA Environmental Accreditation. It shows the strong commitment of the brand to environmental sustainability. I am also pleased to see that the number of manufacturers’ racing activities with this status is constantly growing.”
It should be noted that other measures that Audi is taking to successfully complete its desire to eliminate carbon footprint, are to implement groundwater systems and transform its electrical system to 100% green, in the company of photovoltaic energy.
But, what is the FIA three-star environmental accreditation?
This decoration is the most coveted in the world of motorsport. To obtain it, the applicant must comply with various environmental standards, with objectives that allow the fight against climate change and contribute to the promotion and work of sustainability.

Which ones have it?
Currently there are few brands that have the distinction, although during the months the number of interested and decorated has increased in great proportion.
Formula E, the Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 team and Formula 1 itself have been some of those who have received the three-star environmental accreditation from the FIA.
