In an interview with “El Economista”, the co-founder and CEO of QEV Technologies, Joan Orús, spoke about the promotion plans that the company he represents has proposed to Nissan Barcelona in order to increase the production of the Japanese brand, which has been severely affected due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Orús pointed out that if the alliance is established, it is expected that some 100,000 electric vehicles will be produced by 2023, a figure that Nissan sees quite distant taking into account that during 2020 it only managed to assemble 16,000 units.
With an investment of approximately 400 million euros, QEV intends not only to increase production but also employability in Barcelona with at least 1,500 jobs.

However, from the company specialized in electric mobility they are aware that an investor with greater capital could appear, which they see with good eyes. “If a company appears that guarantees a better continuity to Nissan, I think they should choose it,” said the CEO of QEV.
Bet on the national initiative
The QEV plans show that the company seeks to take a giant step to the point of becoming one of the main references in sustainable mobility throughout Spain and the world, something that they want to achieve close to its fellow countrymen and far from international.
“The multinationals are not worried about the local problem. We cannot depend on external entities over which we have no decision-making power. We try to find a solution together with small companies that are committed to Barcelona and the rest of the country,” said Joan.
QEV Technologies plans
QEV was born just over 20 years ago by the hand of its founder Joan Orús. Since then, he has worked hard to develop cutting-edge technology that has allowed them to have a presence in WRC, TCR, WTCC and Formula E.
Additionally, the Barcelona, Spain-based company has created complete vehicles from scratch for other automotive companies, leading to a desire to mass-produce. QEV is currently working on some prototypes of electric vehicles and hydrogen fuel cells.
