Michele Cecchini, Head of eMotorsport of Enel X, highlighted during the Green Racing Virtual Summit that nowadays sustainability is more requested so that racing can be more credible for the future.

Enel X is a company of the Enel Group which offers advanced energy products and services at a domestic, urban and industrial level. The company is trying to find ways to make racing even more stimulating for the spectators. “Motorsport is the perfect vehicle to make the message of having a greener world more effective. There is a possibility of showing some challenging situations when normally you would not expect that you can apply a green solution but you can still do that. If you can do it in motorsport where everything is so challenging, you can do it everywhere and there are no excuses.”

“Motorsport is facing a significant transformation. The electrification of this sport is a strong pillar, as well as a common point for different championships, and for different events or applications”

Michelle Cecchini

For Cecchini, everything about sustainability in motorsports is exciting because of changes and adaptations. “Motorsports need to represent something for the future and we need to find ways to further engage the people following us in the different championships.”

Cecchini explained that motorsport is a laboratory for Enel X and they conceive it as a sort of accelerator for their technologies to use motorsport to test things and transfer them to everyday use.

Enel X wants motorsport to be more and more sustainable, keeping an eye on both energy transition and safety issues, said Cecchini

The projects

Enel X is working on charging technologies, energy storage and infrastructure solutions for the race track to explore all the possible tools through which we can enable the energy transition. Specifically, Enel X is already able to provide Smart Racing Circuit solutions that will encompass electrification of garages through high-power chargers alongside distributed renewable generation solutions.

Another big challenge is electrification and Cecchini mentioned that energy has to be managed properly in terms of power flows that should be sustainable and usable when really needed.

“This a very good way to exchange ideas. I think it is important that we all work together in order to make mobility more green,” concluded Enel X’s Head of eMotorsport.
