The world of competitions is moving forward every day with increasing strength to sustainability, because beyond entertaining, amusing and offering speed to motor lovers, there is also the commitment to maintain, care and preserve the environment from daily carbon dioxide emissions.

Therefore, the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM), the highest authority of two-wheeled competitions, made the announcement of a new 100% electric motocross category called FIM E-Xplorer World Cup, to be launched for the first time in 2022, promising plenty of excitement.

In addition, one of the best known faces in electric racing and sustainability will be behind the E-Xplorer: Alejandro Agag, Extreme E CEO, Formula E president and E1 Series co-founder, who will provide his expertise to the development of this new motorcycle racing category projected to grow and Valentin Guyonnet will serve as the category’s CEO.

FIM E-Xplorer World Cup Format

The first official season for the FIM E-Xplorer World Cup will feature five main events around the world to display a variety of landscapes that will alternate between urban and natural views, for example from the United States to Switzerland, providing great motivation for spectators to get to know new places, have fun and promote a “greener” outlook.

Ten teams will be part of the grid, but the best of all is that the FIM E-Xplorer World Cup will bet on 100% diversity, in other words, each team will have a man and a woman as pilots, who will do their best to get the most out of the race while facing really demanding tests.

At the mechanical level, the motorcycles will be powered by a single electric motor to make them weigh a total of 130 kilograms. However, a management analysis will be carried out to determine what other elements the motorcycles will require, followed by a strict testing schedule to determine everything works properly.

“… electric energy will become a dominant player in our sport…”

Jorge Viegas, FIM President
