Lucas di Grassi, one of Formula E’s benchmark drivers with 115 grid appearances, will not continue for season 10 with Mahindra Racing.

According to the official website of the electric series, the Brazilian stated that his vision and those of the team were no longer aligned. “I want to express my gratitude to all of our team members for the experiences we shared during what turned out to be a challenging year,” he said.

“This decision ultimately benefits both of us, as our perspectives and visions have diverged. I wish Mahindra Racing the brightest future ahead!” di Grassi said in a statement.

A Historic

Di Grassi, the Season 3 champion, is also the joint Formula E race winner, tied with Sebastien Buemi with 13. In addition, his winning percentage is in the top 3 in the category.

Among his other major milestones within Formula E, di Grassi also won the series’ first race in Beijing in 2014.

For his part, Fred Bertrand, CEO of Mahindra Racing, expressed his gratitude to the driver for the contribution he had with the squad during campaign 9.

“Lucas has played a valuable and integral role since joining us prior to the GEN3 era, but both parties feel the time is right to look at other options for the future,” said the leader.

“He will always remain part of the Mahindra Racing family and leaves with nothing but our best wishes for his future endeavors,” he added.

A Tough Season 9

After finishing fifth at the end of the GEN2 era of Formula E, di Grassi decided to move on to boost Mahindra with his talent and experience.

A good start with pole and third place in the first round in Mexico City would be his best moment for the season, with only two points after that.

However, he was unable to maintain the promising start and together with several team upsets, coupled with the sudden departure of Oliver Rowland, Mahindra finished tenth in the constructors’ standings.
