Audi’s range of electric vehicles has another confirmed model: the Audi Q6 e-tron, an electric SUV that will share many mechanical and structural elements with the next electric Porsche Macan and has a confirmed launch date.
CEO of Audi, Markus Duessman confirmed that the new Audi Q6 e-tron will hit the market in 2022 and will do so by launching the new ‘Premium Platform Electric’ (PPE) platform from the Volkswagen Group, a modular structure for electric vehicles that are jointly developing Audi and Porsche for the German group’s first-class electrics.
The Q6 e-tron will be the first Audi built on the PPE architecture and will share much of its technology with the next generation of the Porsche Macan, which will debut in 2023 and will also do so with an all-electric powertrain.
The Q6 e-tron will rank above the Q4 e-tron and below the current e-tron, although it will have more advanced technology than the latter.

The PPE platform derives from the J1 (used by the Porsche Taycan and the Audi e-tron GT, the two technological standards of the Volkswagen Group) and with this structure the vehicle can have 800 volt technology that allows ultra-fast charges of up to 350 kW in direct current.
The new electric vehicle will be able to adopt front, rear or all-wheel drive configurations, as it can house a motor on each axle.
The use of the platform will make it possible to optimize the interior space of the vehicle much better, offering greater interior habitability than models with a similar size internal combustion engine. As usual, the car battery will be placed under the floor of the passenger compartment and will accommodate accumulators of up to 100 kWh capacity.
The Q6 e-tron will go into production at Audi’s Ingolstadt factory in 2022, a factory that the brand is converting into an all-electric assembly line, including its own battery assembly facility nearby.
Approaching the electrical goal
The Q6 e-tron will be one of the 20 new electric vehicles that Audi will launch between now and 2025 and that is because the German brand has set the goal of having a third of its sales be fully electric by the middle of this decade, and taking into account from the success of the current e-tron, the Q6 e-tron will be a key part of Audi achieving that goal.
