Kawasaki Announces Three Electric Motorcycles for 2022
Share on FacebookShare on TwitterShare on Linkedin

Despite a bittersweet taste for not having introduced an electric motorcycle at the Motorcycle Show in Milan (EICMA 2021), Kawasaki announced that by 2022, the company will debut on the sustainable market with vehicles of this technology.

The Japanese brand has accelerated pace to match the major manufacturers that already have electrified vehicles available. Therefore, it also announced that by 2035 its entire range will be fully electric.

Other established companies like Harley-Davidson have had electric motorcycles available in production for years, and electric-only companies, such as Zero Motorcycles, have had offerings for more than a decade.

However, Kawasaki still has a bit of an advantage over the rest of the Japanese motorcycle manufacturers such as Honda, Yamaha and Suzuki. Yamaha and Honda may have been shuffling around entering the electric scooter business for years, but neither has committed to bringing a full-size electric motorcycle to market next year.

Other Technologies

In addition to electric innovation, Kawasaki pledged to continue developing hybrid vehicles, offering some insight into advances in the field of hydrogen energy, stating that they are taking a key role in this area with the goal of leading the production, transportation, storage and use of hydrogen.

There is no news about the three new electric motorcycles because they have not revealed any details. We assume that for its conception, the brand uses as basis the Endeavor project, which has been under development for more than 10 years and has already shown great advances.

At the EICMA 2021 press conference, Kawasaki president Hiroshi Ito insisted on the firm’s commitment to a green future. Less than two months ago, they already announced their intention to gradually decouple from gasoline and present up to 10 electric and/or hybrid motorcycles between now and 2025.

“I would like to share a new commitment with you now: next year, in 2022, we will show a minimum of three electric vehicles worldwide. That’s a promise,” he stressed.

A Promising 2022

The year ahead will bring many new developments in the world of motorcycles. Ducati also announced that in 2022 they will present the first electric motorcycle for the Moto E World Championship; Honda introduced an electric version of its Gyro Canopy; and more and more Chinese brands will flood the market with their proposals.
