All happened at the Autodromo Las Américas, in the Dominican Republic, where the PorscheTaycan Turbo S achieved a new Guinness record for the German brand. On this occasion, theelectric car of the firm accomplished the milestone during the Caribbean Drag Racing League heldon March 17.
The new achievement unlocked was the quarter mile (400 meters), where the sports caraccelerated by Jacinto Peynado marked 10 seconds and 309 thousandths with a top speedreached of 208.79 kilometers per hour (129.74 mph).
The company Portatree Timing Systems was in charge of keeping track of times. Meanwhile, ahumidity of 93% and a cloudy sky, clothed the track when the clock marked 8:08 in the morning.
After accomplishing the record, Peynado assured that “any Porsche model is focused on offeringgreat performance, regardless of the engine or the type of bodywork.”
With the battery 96% charged, the Dominican driver made 9 passes, setting the best time in thethird of them.
Another recent achievement
It was on February 11 that the German brand achieved its first milestone of the year 2021. Theworld record forthe highest speed reached by a vehicle in an enclosed building was the recordachieved with the Porsche Taycan.
The pilot Leh Keen was in charge of driving the sports car that reached a speed of 165.1 kilometersper hour at the New Orleans Convention Center, starting and ending with the car parked.
Due to complicated rules, the Guinness record was not beaten in over 7 years.
The German giant will seek to continue beating records during 2021 with the help of its electricvehicles. This, in order to demonstrate all the power zero emissions cars have and build a routetowards a more sustainable mobility.
